              Redeye Events

              27 January 2020, 11:00 to 24 March 2020, 17:00

              A professional development programme in Manchester for artists, makers and photographers. Collaboratively developed and delivered by a-n, Castlefield Gallery, Manchester Craft & Design Centre and Redeye, the Photography Network. Four full-day sessions will be led by arts sector experts, focusing on core business skills: writing, pitching, project management and promotion.

              News and Opportunities

              Open Eye Gallery is working in collaboration with Novus to deliver its first pilot collaborative photography project with learners and in-house IMedia staff at HMP Risley. The project will also seek to engage with family members of the learners, where sessions will be based both at HMP during family days and off-site at Open Eye Gallery.

              The AOP Awards are open for?everyone?to enter and are a celebration of exquisite imagery.? Consisting of the Photography Awards (members) Open Awards – for everyone, the new Emerging Talent Award for photographers practicing for up to 3 years and the Student Awards.

              10 January 2020 to 7 March 2020

              Our Plastic Ocean, by international award-winning photographer Mandy Barker, addresses the current global crisis of marine plastic pollution.? Barker collects debris from shorelines across the world and transforms them into powerful and captivating images. The exhibition, which is traveling from Impressions Gallery where it was conceived, is the first major touring retrospective of her work.

              10 January 2020 to 29 February 2020

              Manchester based photographer Luke Saxon has been documenting the proliferation of plastic closer to home in the canal ways of his native city. Exhibiting alongside the Mandy Barker’s Our Plastic Ocean, these images highlights the impact of plastic waste on a local level.

              18 January 2020 to 22 March 2020

              Amak Mahmoodian’s Zanjir (Translation: “chain”)?presents a body of photographs that cross great distances – reaching through history to bring the earliest images of Iranian photography into the present, across oceans to invite Mahmoodian’s family and friends; and across the border between life and death.

              5 February 2020 to 5 April 2020

              Velvet Black is a present-day ode to Victorian plant shows, with black velvet backdrops and their cultivation of indoor-outdoor window theatres. The series started as a photographic notebook of planting a garden, and is resonant of a flower press, portraying the transience of daylight and blooms.

              13 February 2020 to 31 May 2020

              Quinn is a new installation from artist, photographer and writer Lottie Davies. It is the fictional story of a young man, William Henry Quinn, who walks from the south west of England to the far north of Scotland in post-Second World War Britain. Although fictional, the work responds to the real-world experiences of young men and women post-trauma in the early 20th century and now.

              Join photographer Mario Popham and artist Tom Baskeyfield as they launch their publication, Of Flesh and Stone. The collaborative project, which examines the legacy of slate extraction in North Wales and its connection to England’s first industrial city, was first exhibited in the Granada Gallery spaces at HOME in 2018.

              20 February 2020, 19:30 to 20:30

              At first glance, Barker’s photographs appear to show sea creatures and corals suspended deep beneath the sea, but closer inspection reveals a more disturbing reality. From footballs to fishing nets, cotton buds to coffee cup lids, Barker highlights the everyday plastic items now commonplace in our oceans and seas.
